Design philosophy...

What purpose is a beautiful concept that cannot be made into reality?
Balance, style, ergonomics, fucntionality and practicality. Thes are the areas I focus on when designing a kitchen or bathroom. My knowledge of the installation and implementation of kitchens and bathrooms, together with my design skills has moulded me into a better designer.
A designer who has the ability to take my clients dreams and aspirations and successfully create them within our real world limitations.
My journey...

I was born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa. My love and passion for design was heavily influenced by my older brother who at the time studied architecture. Watching him designing, engineering the technical drawings and building the scale models intrigued me, and so I started to investigated the various design disciplines that were available to me. I had chosen Industrial Design, and after finishing high school, I began my studies at the Techinikon Witwatersrand (now University of johannesburg). In the year 2000 I graduated with a B-Tech degree in Industrial Design.
After a brief tour of europe, I joined a kitchen company - in mid 2000 - in Johannesburg as an assistant designer, and so my career in interior design began. After a short period I took over the design & production department, and we hired a few junior designers (CAD operators).
After much success, in May 2005, I decided it was time to spread my wings and start my own company. In it's infancy, Gomes Design operated out of my home study, and I was only interested in the designing and installation of kitchens. Eventually in 2007, I moved out of my study and opened a small kitchen showroom. As I got busier and busier expansion was needed, and so I joined forces with a former colleague in 2008.
We grew and diversified, and our focus now was the designing and implementation of turnkey kitchen and bathroom renovations. Project management became a key focus now, as the planning and managing of the various contractors was paramount to success.
Six years on and we had grown from strength to strength, we had moved into a stunning showroom, and our reputation for excellent design, quality and after sales service is reflected in our referral list of more than 300 happy clients.
After much consideration, during 2014 my wife and I - together with our boys Matt & Tim - decided that we would immigrate to Australia in December that year. Gomes Design was put onto the market and was sold and is being run by the new owner as a going concern.
At the moment, we have settled in the beautiful suburbs of Canberra in the ACT, and I cannot wait to jump start my new design journey and career in Australia.
